Mozilla Firefox 3.6, a Crystal Level web browser built with improved usability, reliability, security, accessibility and Web Standards.
At its heart is Mozilla 1.9.2 providing Gecko's support for CSS 2.1, HTML 5, more CSS 3, MathML 2 and most of SVG 1.1. Plus the TraceMonkey scripting virtual machine improved JavaScript to 1.8.2 and improved memory management removes memory leak issues.
Improved usability includes searchable and secure Add-on Manager, autocomplete web address suggestions from your bookmarks and history (now stored in Places), an interface for Web Storage's sessionStorage, the old Mozilla globalStorage and Web Storage's localStorage, full page zooming and Firefox can resume previous sessions if a crash occurred or you rebooted the computer without closing Firefox. Plus built-in spell checking for when using forms on webpages.
New support for more CSS 3 and experimental features including Multiple Background Images in a single declaration, linear and radial gradients, image rendering and improvements in the DOM as well as support for a new WOFF downloadable font type.
Also support for GeoLocation, InPrivate Browsing and HTML 5's Native Media including the new video element (only supports OGG and Wave).
Desktop integration provides native looking and behaving form controls and improved browser theme using Tango Theme for Linux, Strata Theme for Windows XP, Vista & Windows 7 and Firelight Theme for Mac OS X Tiger, Leopard & Snow Leopard.
In Firefox 3.6, support for Personas provide single click theming of the browser.
In Firefox 3 and higher for Windows and Linux, tab duplication is built in (formerly required an extension). With Windows and Linux you use the Control key and drag and drop the tab to duplicate. Finally as of version 3.5, the Mac version now can duplicate tabs. But strangely you don't use the Command key – you use the Option key and drag and drop the tab.
No matter what your technical or Internet knowledge, your age, your desktop operating system, you can use it.
It stops irritating automatic popup windows as well as supporting online fraud and malware protection and the ability to view more than one webpage in a single copy of the browser using reorganizable tabs. Improved options/preferences, extension and update features have also been implemented.
Being a free of charge software you can download Firefox with an easy to use installer, you can be up and running in no time. It can even transfer existing bookmarks/favourites, cookies, settings, history from various web browsers.
If Firefox does not have the built in feature you need there are loads of add-ons to extend the usefulness of your key program to information: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/.
